WE ENVISION A WORLD WHERE MUSIC
UNITES, INSPIRES, AND TRANSFORMS.
Common Measure is rooted in a shared vision. We are artists, educators, and cultural changemakers united by a deep commitment to honoring the past while shaping the future. Fueled by a passion for music’s ability to transcend boundaries, we recognize a gap in the musical landscape—a need for a space that not only honors the contributions of historically marginalized musicians but also actively builds pathways for new voices to emerge.
Inspired by the radical spirit of Black classical innovators, we set out to create more than just an organization. We are building a movement—one that challenges elitism, amplifies underrepresented artists, and redefines what access and excellence in music can mean. From the beginning, themes of inclusivity, mentorship, and cultural preservation have guided our vision. These values led us to the name that captures the heart of our mission.
Common Measure stands for balance, collaboration, and shared rhythms. We create a space where musicians of all backgrounds find support, community, and opportunity. Our name reflects our belief that music should serve as a common language—open to all and shaped by voices that have too often been left out of the conversation.
Through partnerships, innovative programming, and a commitment to both tradition and progress, we are shaping the future of music. We celebrate and elevate emerging and unconventional artists. For us, this work isn’t just about preserving history—it’s about carrying it forward. We ensure that music continues to be a force for empowerment, connection, and transformation.
